Yes, backing upthe iphone takes the longest. I have tried different usb ports. does not matter.

Its not that abnormal, it happens to everyone at some point. If you have a lot of applications, especially graphcis intensive games, it copys every file to the backup, which is why it takes so long. Many times it can be fixed, check out this guide:
