Question

My cockapoo has been in a lot of pain since Sunday night...it happen suddenly. I took her to the emergency animal hospital where they told me that she is in back pain in her middle/lower back. They prescribed prednisone, tramadol and something to prevent ulcers. They didnt tell me to keep her in cage rest so she was walking a little bit around the house. They just said no running or jumping. I just saw online that cage rest is recommended. Unfortunately she jumped when she was off the high counter at the vet I guess b/c she got scared. Then again today, we step out the room for a few secs and she jumped off the bed. Now she cant even walk at all. She hasnt deficated since Sun. either. I am at lost b/c I dont know what to do. Im afraid to carry her bc I dont want to make it worst. How should I even carry her to take her potty? I really cant afford surgery since I am really struggling financially just making ends meet, super broke in college. How can I take care of her the BEST way so she can have a chance to recover..is still possible if she seems worst that she cant mover her back legs. PLEASE HELP! :(

This may be due to a disc problem that will respond to steroids or require surgery to repair it.

You can read about disc disease here

and about a fibrocartilaginous embolism to the spine here

It sounds like she really damaged her spine in the jumping she did after the first problem.

If she is not able to pass urine or stool she needs more vet care.

Lots of info on paralysis and spine issues on this site put together by dachshund owners as that breed has this issue a lot

If it turns out that she cannot recover leg use there is the option of wheels for her to get around

Charitable giving is down but you can see if you can find financial aid as cash flow is an issue. Check with your local humane society to see if there is local low cost vet care, ask your vet if you can do time payments or here are some groups that might help you afford the vet bills:
