Have you checked for air in the fuel low side of the system?

Every thing from the fuel cap to where the line comes out the fuel filter to go to the injection pump is the low side of the fuel system.

we checked from the fuel cap , all the lines to the motor....no signs of a leak

You will need to get a length of clear plastic hose from the hardware store, the same size as the line from the fuel lift pump to the fuel filter. replace the line between the lift pump and fuel filter with the clear line, you should have enough extra length to make a loop about 6 inches in diameter in the hose (makes it easier to see the bubbles). start the truck and run for 2 or 3 minutes. are there any bubbles flowing through the hose? If there are, and you stated that you already eliminated the truck lines by running from a container, then the lift pump is aerating the fuel and needs to be replaced. I know this is time consuming, but it is the only way to properly diagnose the issue at hand. Let me know the results.

question on the pick up pump....i have a new one ...i did not put it on because the lifting arm is different than my original....original has curve in it the replacement on is almost straight and little bit longer, but the guys at the auto advance say thats the replacement and could be re designed....what do you think....looks like from outside the same pump

Accepted Answer

Hold the two pumps side by side, even out the gasket mounting surfaces (I usually hold them on the edge of a 2x4) notice where the old pump was hitting the camshaft on the arm. If the new pump arm will hit the camshaft in the same spot, it should work. There are times when the designs are changed for copyright reasons. If it does not look like the pump arm will contact the cam in the same spot, it is not the right pump.
