8 month boy with constipation after a formula change tried a stool softener and was of no use recomendations????

Hello; Thank you for writing in today. There are a few more options for infants with constipation. Another formula change may be needed. For example, he may need a lower iron formula. For some children, half a glycerine suppository will work to ease constipation. Also, Karo corn syrup and watered down juice can be helpful. In addition, holding an infant while the infant tries to defecate is helpful by working with gravity. Finally, warm baths can help relax the muscles and encourage stooling. In this infant's case, if he is acutely constipated and displaying significant discomfort, I would recommend calling the provider's office. There can be someone on call. You can discuss possible options, such as those recommended here, and the provider can further advise you. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know. Lisa

Well he was having pains and was very badlt constipated but wouldnt ya know in the 2 min waiting on the reply errrrm he decided to let it rip sos i thank you for your time and info for the future. yours truly Concerned Dad Donnie
