Answer

Yes. You will still need to pay for your Internet.

The wireless that is included just allows you to connect to a wireless router, which is in turn connected to your ISP internet connection.

So you will still need to keep your ISP, and in order to use the Wifi, you will need to purchase a Wifi router from any electronics store, or even Walmart, and connect that to your ISP's modem that you currently have.

Let me know if you need any help with it.

So, when traveling, I need to carry a wireless router around with me too??? And what about hot spots?

Answer

Yes you will be able to connect to hotspots without the router. But for your own home, you will still need to keep your ISP in order to connect.

Let me know if you need any help with it.

I have a desktop at home -- and an ISP, of course. But I want the notebook primarily for travel and don't know how prevalent hotspots are. I am told that wireless internet service runs about $60 a month and I'm not ready to pay that right now...so I don't know whether it makes sense to buy the notebook or not. And I still don't know what benefit Wifi and bluetooth provide...

Accepted Answer

The Bluetooth won't really help you at all as far as connecting to the Internet. It is used to connect devices like cell phones.

The Wifi won't just let you connect anywhere you are. You would need a cell phone card for that netbook, which some netbooks have built-in. It allows you to connect through the cell phone network, but will cost between 40 to 60 dollars a month.

The Wifi on the laptop will just let you connect to places that have a Wifi connection setup. These are usually places like starbucks, most hotels, and maybe some restaurants. But you won't be able to access anything while riding in a car or anything like that.

If you are looking to get onto the Internet just when you are checked into a hotel, then a netbook will work fine. Most hotels have an Internet connection, and the netbook will allow you to use that. Just call ahead and make sure the hotel does have it.

Let me know if you still have questions.
