Do you have a constant throat irritation / heartburn / brething difficulty ?
Do you bring up phlegm when you cough ?
Regards,
Hello,
Could you please tell me for how long are you having these symptoms?
Did you suffer from a flu/ cold recently?
Any sore throat/ sinusitis?
Any history of acid reflux/ burping/ belching/ gas/ heart burn?
Any tests/ investigations?
Any other medical issues/ significant history?
Thanks. Shall be waiting for your reply.
Yes, thats fine. I have a cold now which started with a sore throat. It is now gone and I have a very persistant cough which is keeping me awake at night and through the day I get very bad coughing spells which make me gag. I occasionally cough up phlegm which is white/gray in colour but mostly it is a dry cough. Since I have been in my teens it has been a recurring problem when I get some colds. I am now 47 and worry that as I get older, I may not be able to handle the severe coughing. I have had no tests done to see why I have such an over-active cough zone. I should mention that I am taking Cylexa for depression and I have sleep apnea. I have no acid reflux, burping or belching, gas or heartburn. I have had this cough for about 4 days and my upper chest is starting to get very sore from coughing.
Thank you, Valerie
Thanks. Having gone through your descriptions, since this problem is of a recent origin and has followed a bout of cold and sore throat, I feel that we might be facing the following possibilities as a consequence thereof:
(a) Sinusitis
(b) Reactive airway disease
Sinusitis is known to cause night cough on lying down, as would a nocturnal bout of the reactive airway disease which could have got aggravated by the bout of cold that you recently suffered from.
Please get yourself checked up thoroughly and you may also discuss these possibilities with your doctor (as it would help), and that appropriate management can be instituted.
I hope that this helps. Best wishes. Please feel free to enquire if you have any remaining concerns/ doubts, and it shall be a pleasure and a privilege to help as much as I can.
