Question

My daughters 2006 Mazda 6 with only 33k on it, 10k of that freeway has a reportedly blown clutch and Mazda is saying no warranty $1,300 to replace. There was no sign of slippage, it in a matter of two days went from difficult to shift to locked, could not shift when the engine was running. I know she does not ride the clutch & though a little more rpm than I like to start in 1st gear has been very easy on it to the point of going to neutral rather than down shifting. To me this clutch should last 80 - 100K thoughts?

Accepted Answer

The clutch should definately last at least to 60k under normal conditions if not 100k. You might want to contact mazda's corporate customer service line, The dealer should need to at least tear down and inspect the clutch for the cause of the failure before denying warranty coverage as the friction material on the clutch disc is the only part that would be considered a wear item, the pressure plate, flywheel, and the clutch disc excluding the friction material should be covered as long as you're still within powertrain warranty, from your decription it doesn't sound like it's a problem with the friction material.
