Question

If I had unprotected sex a few weeks ago with someone I know well and is not known to be hiv positive should I be worried? take into consideration last week I was tested for HIV and was negative although I know it says it can take 2 weeks to 3 months to show up but I have heard from other doctors that if I did not have sex with someone who is known to have already had hiv etc then I should not worry...I was also tested for other stds and was negative...

Answer

Hi and thank you for your question. If the person in question is not HIV positive and has no STDs, you do not have to worry very much, but certainly return for your follow up test for your own peace of mind. Please click to accept my answer.

I know that she does not have have any stds I had myself tested for hiv last yr at the beginning of the year just because I became paranoid when I had unprotected sex with a few partners...nobody that I did not know well but just like you said to ease the mind and the results were obviously negative I was just wondering because a doctor I had talked to told me that if a partner or partners from the past were not known to be hiv positve then I should not worry to much but could have testing done for my benefit so I do not worry...also that same doctor told me that most hiv infections occur usually within first couple of weeks if that person had been hiv positive is that true? I'm probably just worrying to much (knock on wood) but I'm just double checking and I def know that from now on I will never have unprotected sex again!

Accepted Answer

While it only takes one time te become infected with the HIV virus, given the situation with your partner being negative, it is very unlikely you have contracted HIV. I would reccommend nonetheless that you return for your follow up test to eliminate any doubt. I hope this helps you, if so, please click accept. Thank you :-)
