He gets hydrocodone when his cough is frequent

Accepted Answer

Thanks. In addition to the hydrocodone, you can use steroids and bronchodilators. Steroids such as prednisone help to decrease inflammation and decrease mucus secretions. The bronchodilators, such as theophylline, may help dilate the lower airway, thus decreasing pressure in the chest. The trachea may not collapse as much. There is a surgical procedure to place a stent in the trachea to keep it dilated. There are some parts of the trachea that they may not do surgery on. You would need get a consult with a veterinary surgeon regarding this procedure. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.
