Have you had a laryngoscopy? (an ENT doctor look at the vocal cords themselves?)

Answer

OK.

Since you are offline, I'll leave my answer here.

The next step you should probably take is for an ENT doctor to actually look at your vocal cords to see what the problem is -- polyps, or scarring, or paralysis of the vocal cords.

Once the actual problem has been diagnosed, the appropriate treatment can be done, which could be removal of the polyp, or injection of the vocal cord...to help with the voice quality.

But without a diagnosis first of the cause of the voice problem, it is hard to know what to do, so seeing an ENT doctor here is best.

I was hoping there was some exercises that would help. The accident happened back at April 25th. Since then improvement has been slight and very gradual. I am not too crazy about adding another Dr. appointment to all the others as a result of the accident,

(a serious auto accident that resulted in 33 days in the hospital and therapy since then).

Well, the voice exercises can help to some degree -- but you have had ongoing symptoms now for six months -- so there probably is something there more than just voice strain, and because prolonged intubation (tube in the throat) does lead to increased risk of scarring around the vocal cords, an ENT doctor should really take a look down there to know what is going on.
