Question

I have a 1999 Pontoon boat with a 50 HP Mercury outboard motor with oil injection. Is there any problems that I should know about. I have heard good and bad about the oil injection, This is my first experence with oil injection motors, all I have had are mixed oil and gas.

I just bought the boat and motor. It is oil injection and I have heard good and bad about oil injection engins. Is there anything I should know about keeping this engine running, and in good condition.

If you can, please give me the serial number of the engine...

 

With this I can give you a detailed answer about the oil injection....There is more than one type used on these engines and I don't particularly like one of them. (The fuel line type is not that good, the gear driven type on the engine is quite good....)

I can not find the number of the motor, The boat and motor is a Satterwhite point and I live in Oxford about 18 miles away. I may have 0G832931

The serial number that you gave does fit a 3cyl mercury 50hp....This engine does use a gear driven oil pump and a reservoir tank mounted on the engine....

 

In the past we have had a few repairs of the oil tank level switch and a false alarm that occurs when it fails....Always better with a false alarm then no oil...

 

We have not seen any failures of this oiling system, and in general have no issues with this motor. Good product....
