The next step would be to start the engine and confirm that the engine is or is not overheating. The safest way to perform this task with consideration of the engine, is to use a thermo-stick or infrared temperature gun. If the temperature goes above 180 degF on top of the cylinder heat or exhaust panel, shut it down and remove the lowerunit again for inspection. If nothing is noted in the lowerunit water pump area, attach a garden hose to the pipe in the exhaust housing and turn water on only enough to prove water flow and test the engine systems along with the telltale...
