Likely have H1N1 (horrific cough,low grade temp 100 w/o ibuprofen, conjunctivitis, fatigue, nasal/chest congestion, headache, peak flows decreased but in "yellow zone" for asthma plan, NO VOICE, feel terrible), seasonal flu vaccine 3 weeks ago, No N1H1 vaccine, Day 4 of symptoms, saw MD day one due to sudden onset and asthma. TX: Tamflu, 60mg pred daily taper 10 mg, ibuprofen, nasal rinses, eye drops. I am not getting ANY better, Not worse, just NO better....when do I get concerned I'm not improving.

Answer

The flu takes 7 to 10 days. As long as you can control the fever and asthma and there's no worsening of symptom, you have to wait this out. I see 2 or 3 cases of swine in the office daily. You are on the correct meds.
Since you are stable, just hang in there.

I have 2 more days of pred left, should I have additional..will the pred delay flu resolution!!! I hope it's closer to the 7 and not 10. LOL!!!!

If you are not wheezing and the asthma is stable, then I would not take more prednisone. As I mentioned, I've seen so many patients with swine flu this past several weeks and typically it's a 7 to 10 day course. Hope you recover quickly
