Question

I installed a new garbage disposal but must have missed something. The unit drains up to the sink through the relief valve and gets water all over the place. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi XXXXXXXXXX

I'm not sure what you mean by "the relief valve". Do you mean the connection on the side of the disposal where you would connect the dishwsher hose? If so is this connection open?

no. the relief valve thats on top of the sink. little plastic doo hicky with a silver cap and a slot cut into it. we put in a new garbage disposal and when the rinse cycle on the dishwasher kicks in the water comes out of the doo hicky on top of the sink

OK. You probably didn't knock out the knock out plug inside the dishwasher connection on the disposal. You will need to remove the dishwasher hose and stick a flat (wide as possible) bladed screwdriver into the dish washer connection on the disposal and then hit the handle of the screwdriver with a hammer. The plastic knock out should pop right out into the grinding chamber of the disposal.
