Info Request

Hello,

Some additional information will help me to answer your question.

Is there swelling around the eyes? Any hair loss?

Do you live in the USA or the UK? If the UK, has your rabbit been vaccinated?

Is there any discharge from the eyes?

Is the white that you see really a film, or has the eyeball itself turned white?

Is the rabbit eating and behaving normally?

Has there been any sneezing or coughing?

Thank you.

Thank you, XXXX. XX you live in the United Kingdom, I'm concerned your rabbit may have myxomatosis, so if that's the case. let me know, and we'll discuss that. Otherwise, i'll assume you live in the USA. The white film over the eye may be the third eyelid. It tends to come over the eye when there's an eye problem.

If there's an infection present, the terramycin wouldn't clear it up after two applications. It will need to be used consistently over 5 to 10 days to get results. So, my first recommendation would be to continue using it as your vet directed. Before putting the antibiotic ointment in the eyes, you can rinse the eyes with preservative-free saline solution (the kind made for contact lenses).

If after using the terramycin consistently for the prescribed length of time, the eyes don't improve, it would be best to see the vet again. Eye problems can indicate a respiratory infection, a dental condition, or an abscess behind the eyes. If your vet isn't a rabbit specialist, you may want to see one who is. Here is a directory:

If you have more questions, just let me know by clicking on REPLY. I hope the eyes will clear up quickly with the antibiotic ointment.
