Hello and thank you for using Just Answer. The IRS cannot attach any liens to properties or bank accounts you owned before the marriage. California is a community property state and the IRS can attach a lien to collect 50% any assets you and your spouse own. The IRS can also attach a federal tax lien against 50% of your wages if you are married to a person who owes federal income tax.
