Question

To beef up security in my garage, I would like to screw plywood on the inside of the studs and then pour concrete between the studs. I would like to leave the plywood on the studs with the concrete between. Would this be okay? Someone told me I "must" remove the plywood. Thank you for your time.

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Between the studs where? can you give me a bit more detail?

Accepted Answer

Hi, I see Rick went offline and the question is now open to others.

You should know that direct contact of untreated lumber with concrete is prohibited. This is because concrete absorbs and holds moisture. Between the constant exposure to moisture and the suffocation of the framing, rot will follow within a year or two. 3/4 inch plywood screwed and glued to the interior of the stud walls would require a power saw to get through- you can not knock/kick it off. Either approach would make one heck of a racket alerting you and your neighbors. This approach in conjunction with a good firearm will stop any attempt long before the attackers can get in.
