If you leave the radiator cap off and run the engine, do bubbles form inside where the cap goes?

I started and let it run a coupla minutes, I didn't see any bubbles. It hasd to run about 8 minutes before it gets hot

Don't know, have only had vehicle for short time

Ok, I would install a new water pump, refill the system and see how it does. If it still continues to overheat you may be having a head gasket issue.
