Question

hello, i just i'm living in a home with a 7 year old lab. the lad is very timid and kind, at times he is scared of friends i bring over. well the lab is owned by the friend i lived with...well i just bought a 7 week old boston terrier and the second the lab smelled her in the house he went crazy trying to find her. he wasnt barking or showing any type of agression, more along the lines of wagging his tail and salavating. i put the puppy close to the lab so he could smell her and got no real reaction, but the lab is whining and trying to get to the puppy. im worried that the lab might try to hurt my new puppy.....help please.

Hello,

Congratulations on your new puppy!

You are very right to be concerned re: the Lab accidentally hurting the puppy, due to the big difference in size, and his initial reaction. I'm assuming the Lab is neutered; if not, this would be a good thing to accomplish, now.

You need to keep the two dogs separated until you have introduced them properly and until the puppy is larger and able to take care of herself when they interact. Do not leave them alone unsupervised, at this time. The following will provide you with good tips and techniques to introduce the two dog properly and gradually:

I hope all will be well with your new puppy and her new companion.
