Hi,

take a look in the electronics box under the bonnet, it should look like this....

I found the relay, swapped it and still will not start. How can I check if the engine is getting the right signal to turn on the fuel pump circuit.

I did get 12 v at the fuel pump connector, but I am thinking it was across the wrong two pins.

I got 12v across the bottom two pins, with and without the fuel pump relay installed. I don't think the engine computer is telling the fuel pump to turn on. Perhaps the pins I tested are for the fuel gauge.

WHat else can I check ?

Answer

If I remember rightly the fuel pump is activated when the engine management detects engine speed. Crank sensors can be a common issue so it's worth checking but ideally you need to have the fault code memories read now. It can be seen as number 9 in the diagram HERE. You'll also need to be checking the supply to the engine management according to the fuse list because, as you say, the pump relay is activated by the DME.

I tried to read the codes by turning on ignition, depressing accelerator 5 times. I only got 1 long check engine flash, then 1 short check engine flash.......then 1 short, and 1 long flash repeating.

Is there another wy to check the codes ? Am i doing this correctly ?

Accepted Answer

You need to have the codes read directly from the OBD connection under the bonnet.

I had to give up and have it towed to a service center. You pointed me in the right direction, but we could not get the car running.
