Answer

Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. I'm concerned about the swelling in all the joints. Have your doctors ruled out rheumatoid arthritis and similar causes? Patella tendon replacement is a long recovery process, but you need to concentrate first on why you are having inflammation in other joints.

I was tested for Lupus and R/A a year ago. I have had left elbow surgery 2x for torn tendons.and AC surgery on Right shoulded. i have had carpal tunnel surgery on both of my hands and no one seems to be able to tell me what is wrong. I have been an athlete all of my life and now i can hardly walk my hands and knuckles swell and my ankles get stiff if i sit for more than an hour. Sorry to sound like a train wreck but i feel like one. I do not want painmeds anymore.............

Answer

Thanks for the additional information. Old injuries and surgeries can cause swelling and inflammation later on, particularly if they are stressed. Your primary may want to consider if you are a candidate for a steroid pulse to try to calm the multiple inflammatory reactions so you can get on with your knee rehab. Did they culture the aspirate from your knee? That would be something to consider having done to rule out an infective process.

i dont think he cultured it he said there was no blood and it was synovial (sp) fluid but it kept happening thats when we got MRI he then said that i can only do straight leg lifts nothing more than 90 degrees bent. I will keep working in it and i want to thank you for your information. My biggest sadness is feeling so old. I may seek another opinion from an rheumatologist

Accepted Answer

Thank goodness. A rheumatologist was going to be my recommendation even though you got a negative RA test last year. That still isn't a guarantee that it isn't RA or something similar. I sympathisize with feeling old. My singles tennis days are long behind me.
