Question

I have a Saab 9-3 (reg.1998). Temp gauge pointer indicates car always runs cold (pointer just within the OK region). In cold weather (T below 2 degC) pointer goes to zero and soon "check engine" warning comes on. I can live with this. However, recently temperature pointer keeps dipping to zero even though temperature is above say 12 degC. It does this in in a swift movement (not gradually)and again warning "check engine" comes on after a while. Eventually pointer does return to usual "OK" position and warning light disappears but only after some time. Car seems to be running well. Hope you can help.

Thanks for your reply. Cannot find any codes for this. What code(s) do you mean? Could it be a thermostat problem in the engine cooling lines (seem to remember engines have a thermostat, although owners manual makes no mention of one; manual is, however, very elementary and basic).

you will have to get an obdII scan alot of places like autozone or pepboys will scan it for you and tell you what codes . It is probably the temp sensor for the gauge is malfuctioning thats why the check engine light is coming on. If I can help you further let me know.
