Lol I haven't bought it yet. My other mobo died no chance of resusitation. I do not want to put money into is as I only us it to dl files from untrusted sites or cleaning up other peoples infected hard drives. The old board was a pc shit (hee hee) oops my bad chips p23g v3.0. Socket is 775. I just want to get a cheap board and us the hardware I have. Tried finding a legacy mobo no luck. I have only ever used recommended hardware when building a new pc. I was looking at this board MSI G31TM-P21 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Thank you

That one only does dual core, look at the first review:

Cons: When i bought it it was noly labeled as "Pentium" those i figured that a pentium 4 3.0 ghz cpu wud go in easy but as it failed to boot i looked into the cpu support list and it only listed Pentium Dual cores. So i had to return it and pay restocking due to Neweggs failure and some mine.

What cpu do you have?

So are you saying that I have two options find a legacy mobo or get a new mobo+cpu and fan? In simplist terms the cpu would not have the info or power to operate the board. Is that right?

no clue as to the make of the cpu to long since I put it together

Accepted Answer

You can narrow down the board choices by searching for one that works with your current cpu if you knew it, otherwise get a socket 775 MB, like the one you looked at but that supports single core....

You can browse them from this page and check if it's compatible with a regular pentium/celeron under cpu type:
