Answer

Dear steven,

Thank you for the information,

There are some common causes of such white coat on tongue. The common ones are candidiasis, leukoplakia, smoking, oral thrush, licen planus, eb virus, sle etc.

As per the symptoms the oral thrush or candidiasis should be ruled out first which commonly causes such white coat on tongue. The antifungal medications are required to control the infection.

The other causes like viral infection should also be ruled out after consulting your doctor. The treatment depends on the underlying cause.

Accepted Answer

Dear steven,

Thank you for the information,

The white spot on tongue may be due to leucoplakia which may be a pre-cancerous condition and should be ruled out.

The other cause could be the canker sores which may also occur commonly and are treated symptomatically. You should take enough fruits and vegetables and avoid smoking. The application of lidgnocaine jelly may help in control of pain if present on the white spot.

You should have the oral examination done by your ENT doctor to confirm the type and cause of such white spot. The treatment depends on the underlying cause.

Let me know if you have any doubt.

Thank you!
