Hi XXXXX XXX~

Is your dog unable to stand at all, or is he just unsteady on his feet?

How long has he been sick?

he has had diareaoh for 2 days, first like oxo drink then last night onhis walk before bed it was like choc sauce on his walk he was running absolutely fine then at 415 i could sence he was at the end of my bed whining and breathing heavy usually he would jump up and wake me but was obviously unable to, i carried him down stairs and let him out he hopped on alternate back legs although struggling with this he had diareah and came straight back in he is now sleeping butr breathing slowly

What breed dog is he?

Could he have gotten into something he shouldn't have?

Is he an 'eater-of-objects' such as socks, ect.?

Has he been eating his regular meals?

Any vomiting?

he is a boxer, he does nt have any bad habits of pickng things up or eating anything he should nt, he has been eating ,the night before i woke up to a pile of sick which was dog biscuits and later on sick which was just bile, i was nt sure who had done it has i have two dogs , my other a bordoux i at th moment being checked out at the vets for his back leg which seems stiff and he is reluctant to go on walks, i dont think it is connected as his is just stiff where as my boxer is finding it difficult to put it on the floor using his front legs

Answer

With large barrel-chested dogs who are having these types of issues, the first thing I think of is bloat...which is where the stomach twists on itself cutting off either end. This can be fatal if left untreated.

That being said...I'm not sure that's what's going on since your dog is still eating and not vomiting.

If this were my dog, I'd have my regular vet take a peek at him. His symptoms are varied enough that there could be something pretty serious going on. Things like Lyme Disease or Anaplasma spring to mind, but it takes a blood test at your vets to get a definitive diagnosis on something like that.

he is just sat now obvisly not knowing what to do with him self the vet opens at 9 it is now 550 i have heard of bloat and hear dogs die in excuciating pain he seems just obviously uncomfy with the situation but not crying in pain, would a diaroheah problem affect his back legs,

Posted by CVT_in_MN 32 days and 11 hours ago.

Answer

Diarrhea wouldn't affect his legs unless he'd had it for several days without eating..then he might be too weak to stand.

I would absolutely call your vet as soon as they open in the morning and have them take a peek at him.

Answer

If there is an emergency vet in your area, you could consider taking him there...or you can just wait the few hours until your regular vet opens. He's been ill for 2 days already, so waiting a few more hours won't likely hurt anything.

im sorry to keep going on he has had diareah but i ve never seen any thing like it with his legs is there anything i can do for him if it is bloat, , he has flopped on his side and his breathing is very slow i dont know if this is because he cant get comfy or he is getting worse , i will take what you said to my vet but in the mean time can you suggest anything he does nt sem to want a drink

Accepted Answer

Don't try to get him to eat or drink...that can just upset his stomach more.

I would just monitor him for the next 3 hours. If he gets worse, you might want to call your vet and wake him up.
