Answer

Hello; Thank you for responding. If the first day of your last menstrual period was 9/21, and you estimated ovulation at CD 18 (roughly 10/9), I wouldn't rule out pregnancy just yet. Some home pregnancy tests are better at detecting Hcg (pregnancy) than others. If you are pregnant, your Hcg level should double every couple of days. You could try taking another pregnancy test in a couple of days. It may actually be positive. If not not pregnant, you may just be having a late period. However, since you normally have regular cycles. This may actually be a good sign. I hope that we'll be answering pregnancy questions soon. :) I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know. Lisa

I thought HPTs could detect pregnancy 5 days in advance? That's what's most confusing to me that the test was negative today. Is that just a marketing thing but not necessarily true?

Answer

No, it's not necessarily true. It depends a lot on the test. Certain tests are better than others. Don't get discouraged. It is early. As I said, give it a couple days, and you may actually have a different result. As for reliability, I know that EPT has been known to detect Hcg very early.

Accepted Answer

There is a possibility that this is also a late period. Most women have an irregular period sometime in their life. At this point, cross your fingers and hope for the best. If you still don't have your period in a couple days, consider another pregnancy test. Lisa
