Question
I am the owner of an electrical contracting business. I will be doing a small job as a subcontractor for the Social Security Administration. The general contractor has requested a copy of all the Social Security cards for my employees who will be working on the job. He says that the customer (SSA) will be doing a background check on the employees and that this is required because of a new "regulation". As an employer, I don't think I should be providing my employees' SSNs to other people. Any advice would be appreciated.
