Question

This is a somewhat indelicate question, but my 8-month-old hamster has what look like really large testicles which my other hamster has never had; however, he seems perfectly happy and healthy. I first noticed this about three weeks ago, and while they seem slightly larger than they were then, Peter himself is considerably larger now (probably an inch and a half longer than he was when I noticed). Could this just be normal but unusual or should I take him to the vet?

Hello and thanks for researching this very important question!

Young rodents can be hard to sex, so sometimes their gender is not correctly assigned by inexperience pet store personnel.

Hamsters' testicles do change size with age, and from season to season--coinciding with breeding seasons and the presence of estrus females.
