Question

I just bought an S type R Jag. year 2005. I paid 25999 for it= Blue Book (Kelly"s) says S type is 16000 to 21000.Mileage was 31100. Why was this so much more than the bluebook. It was on cosignment to a Jag/Landrover Dealer. Tried to get the price down = no go Also If I use reg gas will it REALLY harm the engine or just slow performance?

Hello XXXXXXXXX, Welcome to justanswer!

I can assume that the price you paid may have been what the person owed on the car. That could explain the lack of flexibility on the price. Someone can sell a car for whatever price someone is willing to pay for it. There are not any rules for setting selling price on a car. I am not a lawyer so I cannot comment on the laws regarding this. I have bought and sold a lot of cars though.

As far as the premium gas thing, the S type, R model runs a supercharger and you MUST run premium gas in it. If you do not you run the risk of engine damage due to excessive pinging. I usually tell my customers that the extra $5 for each tank of gas is peanuts compared to a new engine!!

The engine has systems designed to protect the engine from damage from not running premium gas such as the knoch sensor system. This is designed to protect the engine from the occasional tank of bad gas or when you let someone borrow the car and they put regular in it. It is not intended to be used constantly and can eventually lead to engine damage.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with

Thanks,

Todd
