Hi XXXXXXXXXXX. Thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. Generally word processing software (to which he referred you) is semi-consistent across operating systems. I can problably answser your question, but I do need a bit more information please.

What document are you wishing to chance spacing on, and in what program is it you're working with?

i'm not working with any particular document. i just want all of my typed documents to be single spaced. i can always double space with the enter key. i am not not computer literate enough to tell you what program i am working with except to say that it is microsoft office word 2007. i think that i just need the detailed instructions to access and change the template normal.dot from double line spacing to single line spacing.

The easiest and simplest way to do this, and the one recommended by Microsoft, is to RENAME the file (which in Vista is NORMAL.DOTM). The location of the file can be found in Word Tools menu under Options. Please let me know if you can locate the file.

Answer

The default location is :

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\AppData\Microsoft\Templates

Navigate to that location and select the file NORMAL.DOTM. Make sure Word is not running, and close Outlook if open also. Right-click and select rename and change it to something like OLDNORMAL.DOTM. Word will recreate the NORMAL.DOTM file the next time it is started.

I recommend using this Microsoft approach since it resets your settings to their default, especially since we don't know what changed your line spacing in the first place. If for any reason this does not work for you please let me know.
