Question
HI I have a 1998 325i convertible which has a faulty gas gauge. The problem is intermittent. The gauge works and than occasionally jumps to full - like a faulty ground and than for no apparent reason will return to the actual reading. The low fuel like still will come on even the the gauge reads full. What would you suggest to repair the problem Thanks,

Hi, the most common cause for this is the instrument cluster. Sometimes if you tighten the ground nuts on the back of the cluster behind the fuel, and temp gauges, it will work ok for a while.
If it still does it after that, it may be a bad instrument cluster.
They have rechargeable batteries inside for the service indicator, and the batteries fail and leak on the cluster electronics.
