Question

Hello I have a 2001 BMW 325i and the car began having this sort of rough idle at startup and will not pass 2500 rpm when i accelerate it and will begin miss firing and after releasing the gas the rpm drop and the car turns off, it use to happen every once in a while but as every problem it only gets worse and started happening more frequently, now it happens several times a day, it use to only happen when I initially started the car, now it sometimes even happens after Ive driven it for a couple minutes and stop at a red light, traffic jam etc. The thing is nobody seems to find the problem the so far they've changed the fuel pump, ignition coils and checked the whole car for a vacuum leak. Would really appreciate the help. Thanks!!

Hi, how many miles on your car?
Do you have a list of any fault codes?
Does the check engine light come on?
Thanks

The car has 102,000 miles. The check engine light is on and the told me that the code shows 4 bad sensors and missfire in cylinder 1,6.

I would say the most likely cause is a failed crankcase vent valve. When they fail. It allows alot of vacuum in the crankcase, this causes stalling and misfires. To check this. Please remove the oil cap with the engine running and see if the engine stalls or if there Is a strong vacuum present.

They told me they checked it and said that its working properly. They took out the cap and the engines started to shake.

Accepted Answer

That is a sign that it's bad, or failing.
There should be no major change when removing the cap when running. Ive done it alot on good running engines same as yours, and they will run the same with the cap off at idle.
I feel your crankcase vent valve is bad.
