Hi , I will try to help you.
First you say you have a misfire code? Do you feel the car misfire ? Is the check engine light on? You should not have to go to a dealer to get the codes or help. A misfire is caused by : vacuum leak, bad coil or plug, low compression, coolant in cylinder , too much or too little fuel. I can not tell you if you should get rid of your vehicle but having a Saab does create a problems for you and repair shop owners.
I will check back ... Thank you , Jim
the car is riding perfectly . the check engine light went on 20,00 miles ago and I took it to Saab. They said it was nothing and turned it off. It came back shortly afterwards and I drove with it on for months assuming it was nothing. When I went to get it inspected, it failed with 5 code.s I took it to two mechanics- both of whom are baffled. The second one reversed the codes- said fewer came back- although he didnt give me any more information and now wants to try one thing before he says I should go to the dealer.
both mechanics say it could be nothing- the car has no symptoms - or serious but cant figure it out-i dont know if i should keep pususing mechanics( that is very frustrating) or sell
and is it a problem to see a car to a dealer as a trade in with a failed inspection?/ HELP!!!
When if failed: did the smog station give you the codes. Or was it just multiple misfire code 300? Before I can help I would need the exact codes. The problem with some cars, Saab, Land Rover, Porsche, is unless you have the correct software you are dead in the water. I needed to turn off a service light for a customer with a Porsche.. the cost was $5,000 for me to update my scanner just for his car.. You may have other codes : evap system, oxg heater, are some other common codes that store in memory but will not turn on the check engine light. The other reason it may fail is because :
light is off, but there are 8 or so "flags" that need to be set . So the computer watches your engine sensors, checks emission, engine temp,, cat convertor operation, misfire etc. Once it knows everthing is working then it will set the flag to "pass". So this goes deeper than what you may see or feel on the surface. Sorry you are having this problem. You may want to check out this website for a possbile shop in your area. These are for the most part better than aveage shops that may be able to help you.
I will help as I can.. Thanks Jim B

thank you- you have been so helpful i dont have a copy of the failed inspection as it is
at the mechanics. im leaning toward selling the car- if the dealer would take it in trade in- cause all repairs- tires before this- are such a problem and sooo expensive. in your opinion- would a car dealer( we have bought cars from him before) take this as a trade in for any value? thnaks agin- this is the first time i have been able to get an explanation and it is very comforting to have the information
