I am remodeling my kitchen. We have added a turbadour cabinet to the set-up. All the kitchen cabinets are unfinished, so we need to know how to stain and polyurethane the slidding door to the turbadour?

It's a pretty simple process. First lay the tambour flat (you must remove the tambour from the cabinet) then apply the stain with a brush (not a foam brush) let it sit for 5 to 30 minutes (longer if you want a darker stain) then wipe off the excess with a rag. After the stain has dried for at least 24 hours you can apply a
thin
coat of urethane. Take care not to get any runs that drip down into the cracks between the slats.
If you use water based urethane it could show white spots over time if it comes in contact with any moisture. Exterior urethane (spar varnish) is best for kitchen cabinets but it is not available in a water based form. Bear in mind the urethane will darken and yellow a bit over time.
After the first coat has dried sand the first coat lightly with 300 grit sand paper. Sand just enough to knock down the gloss or roughness from the grain raising. Repeat this process for at least 2 or 3 coats. It's a good idea to flex the tambour after each coat dries.
