Question

I have a 2005 Kia Sorrento that has been having the same problem for over a year and the mechanics can't find out what's going on. Here is the problem, the car goes completely dead while just sitting there, not on everything is turned off, but something is staying on and draining the battery. I was told it was the battery so I bought a new battery, and it happened again. It was starting to happen more often till I got the battery replaced, which I did about 3-4 months ago, and it happened again. They're stumped as to what it is, they have done diagnostic tests, battery, alternator everything they can think of & it's not any of that. HELP!!!!

Hi, sounds like you have a parasitic drain. A very slow drain on the battery when it's sitting still. How long does it take to go dead? If it's within like 24-48 hours you can install a meter/scanner to record the drain over a period of time. By removing fuses/relays/modules you will eventually find it. It is a very time consuming process. I would try another dealer or another shop. Sounds like they are just replaceing parts to try and find the root of the problem. Chances are all those things have not gone bad.

It happens like every 2-3 months, usually when I am leaving work for the day, come to the car to find it dead, soon as I get a jump it all works again until another 2-3 months ..

Hmmm...2-3 months is a long time. Dont think it would work to do the idea i mentioned.

The only other idea I have (or would do) is to connect a Ampmeter in each fuse on the car and get the Ampere/Milliampere readings from each circuit and compare. That would take alot of time to do though. Sorry but that about exhausts my ideas for your problem.
