Question

My knees have been giving me trouble now for a few months, especially my left one. Just above the knee cap it feels tender and abit like a slightly raised hard lumpy thing, my right knee feels ok in comparison as just above the knee its flat whereas left is slightly raised a little. This has been causing me pain and I feel like I cant bend the knee properly, has been 'clicking' a little. I have CFS and so when i last saw my doctor about 6 weeks ago he examined my legs and said they seemed ok - as did physio about 2months ago - but doc reckoned and physio it was related to my CFS and was most likely a tender point but I just feel so unsure as it seems to be getting worse!! I also get restless legs in the night and poss have PLMD (my mom said one night that my legs were jerking while asleep like electric shocks) Having to wear a knee support on it, put radion B spray on, have tried painkillers for a little while but didnt seem to really work, also tried lavender oil which seems to work best! Have had a blood test done (not directly for that) but I as I have a possible ulcer they were testing for any inflammation in the body, that seems to have come back fine though as was marked with no further action required by doctor. My mom has osteoarthiritis but that was through wear and tear at a previous job, has never ran in family before. I am just really confused about what is causing this and scared it could be some kind of arthiritis. Anyone able to help!? Thanks Jenny P.s. I am 20years old

Hello, XXXXXXXXXXX, I will do my best to help find an answer with you. I do have some questions for you to help me? Please tell me what CFS stands for in your case just I know I am on the same page. Can you please give me PLMD is as well just for clarity. Thank you. What other medicines do you take and what other medical conditions do you have? What tests have been done - x-ray, CT, MRI, etc. Physical therapy - what type of exercises? Thank you.

CFS - chronic fatigue syndrome (ME)

PLMD - Periodic Limb Movement Disorder

Medicines take: Citalopram 20mg (once at night), Buscopan 10mg (one three times a day), Lansoprazole 30mg (once in the morning) was on diazepam 2mg for restless legs but had to come off them as only a temporary fix

no tests done - only blood test i mentioned and that wasnt even directly related to this problem but was done due a suspected ulcer.

little exercise at the mo - been referred to physical exercise therapist at local leisure centre on referral scheme (this was done from physio) not attended as yet

thanks, p.s. may be heading off in a min to go to sleep but will reply as soon as i can if not tonight then first thing tomorrow :)

thanks

Thank you for the additional information and clarification.

Since no other diagnostic tests were done, it may be difficult to say exactly what is going on. However since you have a referral for physical therapy, I would highly suggest you get an appointment. They will evaluate your problem and come up with a treatment plan.

I had a dislocated knee cap about 16 years ago. I really thought it was just a pulled muscle. Finally an ortho x-rayed it and it showed the problem. I was referred to a knee specialist who gave me two options - surgery and off work 9 months or aggressive physical therapy. I chose the physical therapy. The therapist evaluted my legs and knees, develop a treatment plan and exercises, that I followed religiously. After a few months of therapy, I was able to walk up stairs without a knee brace. I have to watch the types of shoes I wear, but I have no restrictions and had no surgery. I would highly suggest getting with the physical therapist and see what they can offer you.

If you are able to take anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen or naprosyn, you may try what the bottle recommends and see if that helps the pain. You can also put ice on your knee for 20-30 minutes at a time to see if that helps the problem as well.

I hope this information is helpful. If it is helpful, please click the accept button. If it is very helpful, a bonus is welcomed. I will keep you in prayers for speedy recovery. Please let me know if I can help you again. Thank you.
