Accepted Answer

OK, thanks. When a dog has black stools, we are concerned with bleeding in the upper intestinal tract (small intestine or stomach). The blood is broken down into a black, tarry substance, which is seen in the stools. Since there's no other explanations for black stools, based on what you've told me, I would have to suggest a veterinary examination so that your veterinarian can look for evidence of internal bleeding from the digestive tract. A test known as "fecal occult blood" can be run in order to search for proof of bleeding, if it's not obvious upon initial examination.
