Question

I have a renault traffic van with a clutch problem. clutch pedal collapse, particularly whilst cold. It went two years ago and was fixed by renault under warranty. It went again four weeks ago and we had the master cylander replaced. it started to play up two weeks ago whereby i had to use my foot to pull up the pedal. When reporting this to a renault garage i've been told it can't happen. This morning the van was undrivable with the pedal completely flat. Is this one of those design problems that manufacturers are in denial about. Please comment.

Answer

Hello, my name is Mike and I can help with this.

I think it is possible that your problems are with the slave cylinder now, or possibly even the clutch pressure plate (less likely).

A clutch slave cylinder can develop a leak that will allow air to enter the system. Bleeding the system or perhaps replacing the clutch master cylinder would remove that air from the system and make it work better for a time. But gradually, air would seep back into the system and slowly you would feel this problem re-develop.

I hope this is the type of answer you are looking for.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks, it gives me something to argue with when they deny a problem exists. I may come back to you if I cant resolve the problem, thanks again

Glad to help. A simple test for them should be to bleed the system. If there was air in the system, and the pedal gets better...then there is a leak.

Thanks,

Mike
