Question

I have a 2003 Lincoln Navigator with 100,000 + miles on it. It just started to drip oil on the garage floor. Drip is about the size of a penny every time I park it. Looks like its comming from about where engine and tranny bolt together, maybe a head gasget. Is this a common problem and how much should I expect to pay to have it fixed? Bruce Thanks in advance

Accepted Answer

There have been issues with the head gaskets on the right side of the engine leaking oil. Replacement of the gasket and checking the cylinder head for warpage is what is needed.

The labor to replace a head gasket is 17.6 hrs. That does not include labor from a machine shop to check for cracks or warpage. The cylinder head gasket is $126.14, intake gasket $20.76 and valve cover gasket is $18.45 plus antifreeze and oil. Take the labor time and multiply it by the shops labor rate. These engines are difficult to do head gaskets on because of the timing chains. Some shops may not even want to perform the repair.
