Good Morning, I would love to help I just need some more information.
Can you tell me what she is doing that makes you believe she has strained her leg?
Is it the front or back?
Is she using it at all?
When and how did the injury occur.?
What breed is she?
She ran down the back stairs after a chipmunk, then started hopping
front left leg
using it a little bit just hobbling a bit
saturday down back stairs
rottweiler/pitbull
Ok, Thank you for the information it was most helpful.
You are doing the right thing with the dog aspirin and ice packs. You may want to try alternating the ice with heat as well. I would do this several times a day if she will allow it. Follow the digestions for the dog aspirin, you may want to give this with a small amount of food to prevent stomach upset. Aspirin is not recommended for long term use.
Normally strict rest is recommended. Rest her for the next few days, soft tissue injuries usually heal in 5-7 days. Try to keep her calm, no ruff play, no running or jumping and walk her on a leash only to prevent her from chasing anything.
If she is not better by the end of the week you may want to have her seen by a veterinarian it may be she needs a stronger anti inflammatory medication. They may also want to do X-rays to rule out any fractures or knee injuries.
Please let me know how she is progressing and if I can be of any further assistance.
