Question

I am being advised to spray my roof deck and gable walls with faom insulation in a retrofit application (I already have some blown in fiberglass in the ceiling deck). Is this good advice? What are the downsides/things to watch for in this type of application.

Hi XXXXXXXXX

Spray on foam is an excellent form of insulation if a bit pricey. The foam should not be sprayed over blown in insulation. It should sprayed directly on the inside of a stud or rafter pocket. As long as the coverage is uniform with no voids it should be acceptable. The only downside is the high installation cost. In applications where it is not possible to vent a rafter space (like a cathedral ceiling in a retrofit) spray on foam is often the best alternative
