Answer

Yes, you can, but you'd need to change the engine, transmission, and wiring harness, as well as the powertrain control module.

Why is it you're wanting to install a 2.4liter instead of the 2.7?

the engine thats in the car blow a rod and i just bought a 2.4l with 28,000 miles on it for 500 dollars will it be worth it to do it

Answer

In order to make the swap you're going to need at least another $1000 in parts plus a lof of additional labor to make the swap, you'll need the harness and the correct transmission, axles, hoses, cables, a new pcm, since they have the vin burned into them and can't be reprogrammed to go from a 2.7 to 2.4.

More than likely you're going to have as much into the swap as you could replace the 2.7 for, with many more headaches in the process.

i have the pcm, to get a 2.7 with decent miles on it it would cost around 1800 plus labor, sebring did make 2.4 that fit in there ,a trans would be cheaper to get than an engine , would you do the trade?

Accepted Answer

A used pcm will not work, the vin will not match the vin stored in the immobilizer module and it won't start.

If you can get the engine, transmission, harness, and all the needed hoses and cables for under 1200 I'd do it, otherwise with the additional labor you're not going to be any better off than just biting the bullet and spending the 1800 on the 2.7
