Question

Looking at a used 1996 MOntero LS 3.0 with Automatic Transmission and 120,000 original miles. Not too familiar with this engine. How do the engine and transmission hold hold up? Seems a bit small for the size of the vehicle. Is there a major problem I should look for when I give it a good inspection? How long do these transmissions last. I here the 3.5 L would start leaking oil at this age. How's the 3.0? Been researching online and it everyone says it's bullet proof. Just looking for an honest assessment. Are parts hard to get for these things?

The 3.0 has been around for a long time and has held up very well.also this tran in the Montero has given little problems.if it has been taken care of its hard to say how long it will last.these part are hard to get because there has not been a high fail rate.This engine has good power for the size of the suv.

One more question- Who manufactures the engine? Is it a mitsubishi or gm?

This engine is made by Mitsubishi. also Chrysler has used this engine in the past.
