Answer

Hello XXXXXXXXXX,

Welcome to Just Answer.

You can age new silver by either using potassium sulfide which is a chemical that reacts with the surface of the silver. It creates the old patina finish you are looking for. You need to do this in a well ventilated area, however. You can also use eggs which is easier to get but you may have to repeat the process several times.

Thanks for the info. It would have been very helpful to know that it would take a jewelers polishing wheel and rouge to take off the extra patina. It is nearly impossible to take off the patina by just plain rubbing.

XXXXXXXXXX,

I'm confused.....I thought you were trying to create the old patina finish with new silver.

That is correct, however, inorder to get into the grooves of the pattern etc. you have to paint into them with a smal;l brush--Then you need to remove excess with a jewelers polisher

XXXXXXXXXX,

I am not sure why; did you click on the link in my original answer? You either rub the solution on with a cloth, or if you use the egg yolk method you simply put in the same container and let it sit.
