Not a Cat Question?
Question
my mom has a blue point siamese. He's a little over a year old. His pupils are constantly dilated, but have been that way since he was a kitten. He definitely has no problem seeing and is VERY ACTIVE and happy all the time, very loving and lots of personality. I know there can be problems causing dilated pupils, but since his have been like that since birth, do you think there's a problem? Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
thank you for your post!
Do the pupils change size in response to light or dark rooms?

they don't seem to. Just seem very large all the time, that's what is curious.

Hi there,
Thank you for your post!
Seeing as this is in a young cat, with vision that appears to be intact - this is hard to be very concerning.
In an older cat, problems such as lens luxations, hypertension, inflammation, and even cancer can lead to this.
In a younger cat with this from birth - it is possible to have an iris abnormality (making the pupil appear larger) or even a problem with the sensory and afferent nerves controlling the iris (to make the pupil look larger).
Although it does not appear to be an emergency, based on the chronicity of the problem - I would make an appointment to see the veterinarian to evaluate the eye to see if there is an abnormality causing this...but my suspicion is that this is unlikely to be a problem based on your history.
