Answer

In my shop we consider this a simple 2 man job.

Tie a piece of rope, about the size of your walkbehind mowers recoil rope, around the end of the spring. Have a helper wrap a piece of wood, a wrench anything will work, around the rope and pull while you guide the spring on.

Sometimes you have to be creative and maybe use a tie rod, steering link, whatever is handy to get the correct angle of pull.

You probably can even get the wife involved. Have her do the guiding and you can do the pulling.

How do you removw the old spring?

Accepted Answer

The reverse procedure. You won't need a helper to remove. Just to install it. Make sure the deck is fully raised and locked before removing the spring.

Leave the cowling on if you can and try to find something you can change the direction of pull on the spring. Not sure that made sense
