I own a 2004 volvo xc70. There is a squeek coming from the passenger side dash air vent that seems to get worse when the breaks are applied and in cold weather. It's likely the fan. How can this be fixed?

Well if you think the noise is coming from the fan, you should remove the fan from the climate box and inspect for debris that may have fallen into the fan.

It's not likely debris. The squeek is heard when the engine in the car is decelerating and is more audible when it's cold. The noise stops when the care is not moving and when it warms up. I think the fan might need a little oil. How do I access the climate box?

Ok the noise is coming from your rear propellr shaft balancer, it has 5 fiberglass cylinder that are pretty small that are used as isolators for the balancer, the problem is that the cylinders tend to shift inward and start to rub on the rear differential fluid pump, the repair is to jack up or put on a lift and simply have the car in neutral and just use a long flathead screwdriver to push them back into place.
