Info Request

Hello; Thank you for writing in today. I want to provide you with the best possible information, so I do have a few questions. I hope you understand. Date of last period? Tell me more about your irregular periods, before you were on birth control----have you ever gone 2 or 3 months without a period? Any spotting at all during this time? I assume the home test was negative. Are you using any protection during sex? Have you had any significantly stressful changes in your life lately? When was your last OB Gyn appointment? Please let me know. Lisa

hay i was thirteen when i had my first periods. it lasted for like almost 15 days and after that my periods were like that. it came it would not stop no matter what . i almost died two times, i had bleeding for almost 2 months and finally i went to the doctor and they checked everything and said it was my hormones were not balanced. since i was fourteen i took birthcontrol. everytime i stopped birthcontrol right after a few days it would start bleeding or it would not bleed for months.i stopped using birthcontrol since 4 months ago cuz i was gonna get married and i really wanted to have kids cuz i was scared i might not have kids cuz of this problem. i am not exaclty sure when was my last period but i beleive it was in june. i have been sexualy active since july 27th. i feel tired but no nausea or naything lilke that. i do feel sick like feverish. last pregnancy test i did i kinda of saw a very faded line for positive pregnancy testing. maybe it was just me but i saw a very hard to see line. i can't afford to go to the doctor yet so i was wondering could i be pregnant. and also i don't feel the urge to have sex. when i have sex i dont' feel anything i am not lesbian or anything but could i have PCOS?

Answer

Hello; Thank you for responding. This current situation is a bit complex. Yes, it is possible that you might be pregnant; however, you would likely have a positive pregnancy test by now. You should proceed with caution, such as abstaining from alcohol and tobacco, just in case you are pregnant. You need to see a provider to get a blood test to check for pregnancy. This may be more sensitive than the over the counter pregnancy tests. Also, if you did have a faintly positive home test, consider waiting a couple of days and rechecking the home pregnancy test. During the first trimester, Hcg hormone increases every couple of days. Therefore, if it was faintly positive, it may be positive after a few days, since it measures Hcg hormone. Now, with this being said, it is also possible that you may not be pregnant. Since you have had such an extensive history of hormone and menstrual irregularity, this may be some of that irregularity. In fact, you may not be ovulating, which would make pregnancy difficult. As for PCOS, yes, it is associated with irregular periods; however, there is more too it. At this point, you need to be evaluated. You need to be seen and pregnancy ruled out. I understand the issue regarding lack of insurance. If I may suggest, you should look into your county health department. Many counties offer Woman's Health Services on a free or low cost basis. There may also be other available community resources, such as Planned Parenthood. I hope this helps to explain. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know. Lisa

thank you so much. hopefully i am pregnant and i will try to see a doctor as soon as possible. another quick question i have had headaches so i was wondering if i can take advil or not in case i am pregnant . should i see a obgn/ gynacologist or just a regular physician.

thanks again

Accepted Answer

Since there is the possibility of pregnancy, NO ADVIL. Tylenol is the only medication that should be taken at this point. An Ob Gyn would be best; however, if a general provider is more readily available, that would be a fine too. A general provider could provide some basic care as well. I hope this helps. Maybe we'll be answering pregnancy questions soon. Take care. Lisa
