Question

I found my cat outside last monday afternoon hidden under a trailer when i pulled him out i saw he had been bleeding under his neck not much but a little. I brought him in and put him on a pet bed where he usually lays. He had eaten a little bit and drank a little but not moved much. He seemed really sore but was up walking around the next morning he had used the litter box he had done both. But today I was petting him and noticed a lump on his right side, as your looking at him, back in front of his back leg and he kinda of meowed when i touch it lightly now. Could you tell me if you think he has some kind of internal injury and what it might be?

no other injurys that i can see, I think he had been gotten a hold of by something we live in the country, his leg got broken about a year ago he had surgery and leg was set had had no problems with it but he is walking on it like he always had. he is neutered. The drops were for my female cat about 3 weeks ago.

Accepted Answer

Ok, thank you for the information.

If he has a history of getting attacked by other animals or is fighting while outside(which I would suspect from the wound on the neck). It is very possible that the lump you are feeling is an abscess. This happens very often with cats that go outside. Abscesses are pus filled pockets under the skin and can be very painful.

You can give amoxi drops to help start the healing process, however please know that if you have left over antibiotics it is possible your other kitty may have a recurrence of the problem. You always want to finish all antibiotics.

I would give the amoxi twice daily until he can be seen by a vet on Monday. While you can start the antibiotics I would still recommend having him seen by your veterinarian.

Abscess's are an infection and can make your baby very sick if not treated properly. Abscesses are often drained and repaired via surgical intervention.

Please continue to monitor his food and water intake as well as his bathroom habits.

If he appears worse before Monday I would recommend having him seen at you local ER.

Please let me know how he is doing.
