I went through 6 weeks of anxiety and eating little or nothing. I've lost about 20 pounds. My appetite came back but I'm still losing weight. I have thin stools but no bleeding.

Answer

Good afternoon, thank you for your question. I am sorry you have suffered with anxiety... I hope that you are now feeling better. Weight loss due to anxiety is a common problem, because of the obvious reason ( lack of appetite and subsequently, failure to eat enough calories to maintain body weight). Now that you are experiencing an improvement with your appetite you can predict a slow, steady weight gain of about 1 per week, given you are eating a diet with enough calories and nutrition. There is a very nice calculator here:
http://www.caloriecontrol.org/healthy-weight-tool-kit/weight-maintenance-calculator-women
where you can enter your statistics to see how many calories you require according to your height, weight and age. In order to gain back the weight you would need to increase your calories above that recommendation. If you increase your calories by 500 calories a day over the recommended number of calories foreach period of 7 days , you will gain one lb of weight, which is equal to 3500 calories. I hope this information has helped you, if so, please click accept. Feel free to ask more questions if you'd like. I am very happy to help you and I am very glad you have your anxiety under control!!

what about the thin stools? Is my body using the food more and trying to make up for the time it wasn't getting hardly any food? I'm really scared!!!! I've started not to eat all the junk I was eating before. More water and sports drinks instead of soda. More veggies and fruit instead of junk. I eat something small for breakfast now which is something I never did before this. Try to watch my sodium and eat healthier lunches and dinners. Will I stop losing pounds if I increase my calorie intake? Thanks for the initial answer but the thin stools concern me!!! I'm not 50 yet so colon problems concern me. I'm male.

Hi,
All the changes in our diet will also produce changes in your bowel. You are definately on the right path now, though. Thin stools can certainly be caused by colon polyps or cancer, but it can also be caused by irritable bowel syndrome brought on by stress. If you are close to 50 it would be a good idea to have a colonoscopy done for peace of mind. All my best to you:-)
